We've completed the initial phase of consultation regarding the Alcohol-Free Zones (AFZs) and Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APAs) in Albury.

Please review the DRAFT document on the Establishment of AFZs and APAs in Albury via the document library on this page and enter your submission below.

This is part of a legislative requirement which must happen every four years, with the current permits due to expire on 23 December 2022.

What are AFZs and APAs?

The principal objective of an AFZ and APA is to provide a short-term control measure, within a maximum operational period of four years, to improve public safety by preventing disorderly behaviour caused by the consumption of alcohol in a public space.

AFZ relate to public places that are public roads, footpaths or public carparks within a defined area where the consumption of alcohol is prohibited at all times, except for that part of a public road that has Council approved footpath dining facilities and relevant liquor licence approval.

APA relate to parks or parts of a public place within a defined area where the consumption of alcohol is prohibited at all times or is declared for specific days, times or events.

Where are they currently located?

AlburyCity currently has two Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) and three Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APA) to manage alcohol related anti-social behaviours across the city which remain in force until midnight on 23 December 2022.

The AFZs are located - see map image below

  • Albury Central Business District (CBD)
  • Lavington Central Business District (CBD)

Alcohol Prohibited Areas are - see map image below

  • Noreuil Park – Australia Day 9am to 9pm

We're undertaking this review is to ensure a comprehensive assessment is undertaken of the evidence to support the future establishment of potential zones and areas.

We have received some complaints from members of the public which have formed our thinking around possible zones and areas which should be considered as part of this review. These are shown in an attached maps below.
