Australia Park Proposed Improvements

Due to the high demand for parking at Oddies Creek Park, particularly from visitors to the playground and off-leash area during weekends and school holidays, we are planning significant upgrades. This demand is expected to rise further with the proposed establishment of a splash park, currently undergoing a feasibility assessment.

We have developed detailed design plans and completed all necessary due diligence and approvals for the following enhancements:

  • New Carpark: An 80-space carpark with four accessible spaces
  • Pedestrian Bridge: Connecting Australia Park to Oddies Creek Park
  • BBQ Picnic Shelter: For gatherings and leisure
  • Landscaping: Including tree planting and linking pathways
  • Reconstruction of Ebden Street: Through the park
  • Service Vehicle Crossing: For improved park maintenance

Additionally, a portion of the South Albury levee bank, which protects the area from Murray River floods, will be realigned and upgraded to bolster flood protection.

To address environmental concerns, the project includes the planting of 18 new trees in the carpark area and the revegetation of a section of Oddies Creek with 70 native trees and 120 native shrubs. This will offset the removal of 22, predominantly exotic, trees.

These enhancements are a direct response to feedback from the 2017 community consultation, which highlighted the need for improved facilities, parking, and pedestrian connectivity between Australia Park, Oddies Creek Play Space, and other riverside park areas.

Furthermore, the existing gravel car parks at Oddies Creek Park and Wodonga Place, along with the temporary heavy vehicle access road from Ebden Street to Oddies Creek Park, will be converted to green space. This ensures no net loss of open space in the precinct.

We welcome your thoughts and feedback on these proposed improvements.
