The draft Single Use Plastic Policy is Council's commitment to progressively reducing and where possible eliminating single use plastic, implementing responsible procurement practices, and improving consumer awareness on the impacts of single use plastic.
Key actions in the plan include developing an internal staff awareness campaign, improving information on the AlburyCity website, reviewing Council and Halve Waste awareness campaigns, developing an information pack for cemeteries and funeral homes providing alternatives to balloon releases, reviewing procurement procedures to include single use plastic considerations, rolling out centralised waste stations at all Council sites, assessing the feasibility of piloting returnable coffee cups at a public facing canteen, providing alternatives to bottled water, collecting single use plastics from Council events and facilities and delivering to a collection point for recycling... and more.
