Overview

Mungabareena Reserve (a Declared Aboriginal Place in 2016) is a popular swimming, fishing, and picnic area, the site of significant natural and cultural heritage value. Located within the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri People, Mungabareena Reserve was used as a meeting place before crossing the river, for Indigenous people in the surrounding areas on their way to Mount Bogong.

Mungabareena has been designated as an Aboriginal Place and therefore all works will have specific requirements for engaging with the local Aboriginal community prior to any works taking place.

The 2007 Murray River Experience provided a high level master plan for Mungabareena Reserve and Eastern Hill. The Eastern Hill Activation Master Plan was endorsed by Council in November 2023 and will guide any improvements in this area, while the Mungabareena Reserve Plan of Management and an updated vegetation management plan are currently being developed.
